My First Arm Wrestling Experience By JCC 8th grader at play My first experience arm wrestling a girl was when I was in 8th grade it was with my girlfriend at the time (1st one) she was also in 8th grade but had a different home room. We were both very athletic, as I was one of the best males at every sport and she was bar none the best female athlete ( better than nearly all the guys too.) she was very tall for her age at 5'8, which made her look skinny but she definitely had some muscle tone. Anyways the match happened at her house after school, she was sewing a t-shirt for a home ec. project, when she decided to measure her arms for the sleeves. Being a competitive person she smirked at me and said “I’ll bet my muscles are bigger than yours." Of course I laughed it off and said “no way." but in reality I was nervous, especially at the age I was at. I really didn't want to lose any kind of muscle/strength contest to a girl. So she measured her flexed bicep which turned out to be 27cm (10.6 inches), and said "ok your turn." After seeing that I was even more nervous as her muscle was really impressive, just like a little baseball. (I think this is what got me interested female biceps). So I closed my eyes flexed as hard as I could and let her measure mine, it turned out to be 28cm (11.0 inches) but not nearly as defined. I was relived but only for a moment as she then said "Yours may be bigger but I bet mine are stronger." So this lead to the match, we went to her desk and grasped hands. She had a very firm grip, again in my head I was very nervous, and at this age there was no way I wanted to lose to a girl, especially my girlfriend. We counted to 3 and then proceeded to go, unlike I do now and only go 50% and then go up from there to she how strong the girl I'm arm wrestling is, I went 100% right from the start, there was no way I wanted this match to even be close. We were both going our hardest and neither arm budged; we had a stalemate for at least 20-30 seconds. My arm was killing me but my determination wouldn't let me lose. I was trying like my life depended on it and finally her arm began to go down, I would say it took another 30-40 seconds before I finally took her all the way to the table. After the match and muscle comparison I had a new found respect for my girlfriend, women and their strength that sticks with me to this day. I still believe that the only reason I won that match was my fear of losing, because after the match her reaction was very indifferent. She basically said " Oh well at least I put up a fight" Where as I was extremely exhausted-mentally and physically.
